Odisha Lakhesvara Siva Temple
Lakhesvara Siva shrine is situated on the right side of Yamuna-Ganges road, behind Lingaraja market compound, Old Town in Bhubaneswar. Lakhesvara Siva Temple is located at a short distance of 70 meters north of Lingaraj Temple. On the other hand, it is situated at a short distance of 10 meters south of Yamunaesvara Siva and Gangesvara sanctuary across the road. The shrine is facing east direction. The presiding divinity is a Siva Lingam in a spherical yoni-pitha, which is 1.77 meters under the chandrasila. The shrine is flanked by Yamuna-Ganges road in north side, and residential buildings and apartments on the three sides.
The bottom of raha niche at pabhaga part is ornamented with unique talagarvika. Raha niche is flanked by a bho design in which a modern motif is bordered by two ladies on either side. On top of it there is an impressive Gajakranta. Moreover, the beki recess has Saivite deities over the raha and pichha simha on top of kanika pagas. The concurrence between the kanika pagas and anu ratha are ornamented with minute pagas of lotus style. Raha paga is ornamented with sequence of chaitya and anuratha paga is festooned with a sequence of small rekha deul in the form of angasikharas. The shrine is ten-storeyed with wonderful kanika housing 10 bhumi-amlas. The doorjamb is a latest addition and lacks any ornamentation.
Architecture
At the moment, Lakhesvara Siva Temple rests over a pista measuring 12.85 meters in length x 5.75 metres in breadth x 0.45 metres in elevation. On plan, Lakhesvara Siva Temple is saptaratha with a unique quadrangle vimana and a revamped frontal portico. The vimana measures 6.40 sq metres and portico measuring 0.95 meters moving towards east. Moreover, cella of the sanctuary measures 2.456 sq meters. On a particular height, the deul is complete rekha order incorporating bada, mastaka and gandi measuring 13.08 metres in elevation. The bada has 5-fold divisions measuring 4.55 metres in elevation. Pabhaga has 5 moldings: upara jangha (0.88 metres), tala jangha (0.80 metres), bandhana with 3 moldings (0.28 metres) and baranda with 7 moldings (0.66 metres).
The gandi of Lakhesvara Siva Temple measures 6 metres in height. Mastaka measures 4.50 metres in elevation that comprises beki, khapuri, kalasa and amlaka. The parsvadevata niches are positioned on raha paga of talajangha on 3 sides of south, north and west measure 0.82 meters in elevation x 0.58 metres in breadth x 0.25 metres in depth. However, all of them are empty.

By Road
Bhubaneswar city is properly connected by road. Proper highways and inner roads have in fact made travelling by road simple. New bus stand is situated in the center of the city. Devotees can easily board a government or private bus to reach Lakhesvara Siva Temple from new bus stand. Concession is offered to small children and senior citizens. Interstate and inter-district buses run on this route.

Lakhesvara Siva Temple is looked and maintained by the community of Ganga-Yamuna Sangathana. Makarsakranti, Sivaratri, Chandana Utsav, Jalabhisheka Kartika-purnima, etc. are celebrated and rejoiced in the premises. The temple area is used for different public meetings. The local customs attribute the shrine to the Gangas.

October to March is the ideal time to visit Lakhesvara Siva Temple with your friends and family members. The weather gets very pleasant during this period. It has been suggested not to visit the temple during summer season. It gets hot and dry during this time.
