Kapila Kunda is located over the compound wall of Bhimesvara shrine in Kapila Prasad region in Bhubaneswar. Currently, Kapila Kunda is under the maintenance and care of Bhimesvara Temple Committee. The massive reservoir was excavated by digging the laterite bed under the soil. The bank is made from dressed laterite blocks. It is considered a private holy tank maintained by Bhimesvara Temple Committee. Worshippers and devotees tend to perform daily prayers inside the premises. Kapila Kunda water is considered to be sacred. There is a local tradition that the water is used for cleansing sins. Worshippers tend to take bath in the holy water in order to eliminate sins.
People tend to engage in holy Pinda and Kartika Purnima rituals inside the premises. The tank has many banks on all the sides. It must be noted that Bhimesvara temple precinct is located on the eastern bank, Bhubaneswar-Jatani road is on the west side, residential buildings in the north side and big vacant space in the south side. History
The reservoir is square in shape measuring 40.10 sq meters with deepness of 5.60 meters. Kapila Kunda has an entry in the south. There are useful flights of steps heading down to the reservoir.
