Odisha Gupteswara Temple
Koraput district is not only famous for its unique culture and tradition but also for its incredible architecture. The presiding deity in the temple is Shiva Linga which is believed to be Swayambhoo or self originated. The holy lingam in the temple is called Gupteswar which means "hidden god". It is also called Gupta Kedar. The sacred Gupteswara temple is also renowned for celebrating Mahashivratri, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva. During the festival time, pilgrims from all over the neighboring cities gather here to participate in various religious activities held in the temple.
History
The renowned Gupteswara temple was constructed during 12th of century by an unknown dynasty. This Shiva temple is considered the most visited temples in the district. This ancient temple has been built with stone blocks. The temple is divided into three main sections: first one is exterior part, second one is middle part and last one is deity centre. The major attraction of this temple is the idol of Nandi or sacred cow. According to legend, the temple was constructed by Devas or angels thousands years ago.
Weather and time to visit
Monsoon starts in the month of July and ends in the month of August-September. Moreover, due to tropical climate condition, during winter, the city becomes cold while in summer, it becomes hot and humid and temperature rises to maximum 45 degree Celsius. So, the best time to get there is from the month of March to October.
