Odisha Godavari Tank
The renowned sacred Godavari tank is enclosed by embankments especially made of laterite blocks. The sacred tank is famous for its natural spring along with outlet channel that lead to Bindusagar Lake. As per the Hindu mythology, when Goddess Parvati killed demons Basa and Kirti and felt thirsty, she went to this place. Lord Shiva struck trident on earth and a natural spring came out of it.
History
The sacred Godavari tank was constructed during 12th of century by Ganga rulers. It is said that Ganga ruler were great followers of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the water of Godavari tank is very sacred and can cure various skin diseases. The temple wherein this sacred Godavari tank is situated is renowned for celebrating Mahashivratri, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva. Moreover, during the festival of Mahashivratri, devotees gather here to dip into sacred water of the Godavari tank.
Weather and time to visit
Like all other cities in the Odisha state, Bhubaneswar city also has tropical climate condition. So, during the winter season, the temperature could reach at maximum 45 degree Celsius while in winter the temperature can drop down to 6 degree Celsius. Hence, if you want to visit at Godavari tank then you need to visit from the month of March to October.
