Odisha Dhabaleswar Temple
The famous Dhabaleswar Temple is located in Gopalpur on Sea in Orissa. It is a popular spot for visitors and pilgrims from different parts of the country. This temple is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. The temple is also beautiful and is located near the tranquil beach. It is located at a distance of 37 km from Cuttack. The temple is wonderfully embellished in stone carvings of the ancient times. The serene ambience of the temple also inspires spiritual feeling among the devotees.
History
This temple is an 11th century temple and is connected to the mainland with the help of a big footbridge. The name of this temple is derived from the miracle performed by Lord Shiva. A thief once stole a black bull from a village and fled to a Shiva temple. The thief prayed to Shiva to rescue him from the crowd. The lord took pity on him and appeared as a sanyasi before the crowd and made the black calf into white. As the lord disappeared, the thief realized his mistake and apologized to the crowd. It was due to this act through which the temple got its name.
Best Time to Reach
The temple is located on the top of hillock, can be reached by boats that leave from Cuttack. The visitors can also take the footbridge to reach the temple.
Event Associated with Temple
The main event associated with the temple is Sankranti which attracts thousands of devotees. There are also mass gatherings on each Monday during the month of Kartik. The other events celebrated here are Shivratri and Makar Sankranti.
