Odisha Brahmeswara Temple
The main idol here is that of Brahmeswara. The temple's jagmohan is beautifully carved. The temple has a unique architecture signifying the beginning of usage of iron beams in architectural design. The temple is a perfect combo of innovation and Orissan temple building style. The extravagant floral collection and the wonderful door frame carvings add to the speciality of the temple.
Facts
The temple has Kalingan style of architecture and was established in 1050 A.D. Similar to the Rajarani temple, the place has eight depictions of Guardian deities. The tantric oriented images include Chamunda on the Western facade with a trident human head. Other deities are also pictured in a horrifying manner. One of the retrieved inscriptions mentions Queen Kolavati to have presented 'many beautiful women' to the temple which points directly to the devdasi tradition. The sculptural details portray the expertise of the skilled craftsmen involved in building the temple.
