Odisha Bedha Lokanatha Temple
The two names with which this temple is famous are Bedha Lokanath temple or the Lokanath Shiva temple. The temple has been dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to have been constructed in the 15th century.
The temple has Tala Bazar road towards the right side that is connected by the Kedar Gauri lane and the Lingaraja temple. The east of the temple is located the Bindusagar tank. The direction of the shrine of the temple faces the southern direction and the prevalent deity worshipped in the temple is the Shiva lingam having a round yoni pitha in the middle of the temple.
The main priest of the temple is the Gunanidhi Panda.
The lingam of Lord Shiva is submerged in the water all the time that is square in shape and the water that reaches the lingam is from a natural spring that is from the Parvati tank.
The people who have been suffering from the numerous incurable diseases are believed to be healed with the blessings of worshipping the temple.
The various festivals celebrated in the temple are Shivratri, Chandana Yatra and Sitak Sasthi.
The temple has been built using the technique of dry masonry and use of sandstone has been done in the temple.
Architecture
The temple vicinity consists of a vimana that is 3.2 meters high and 2.8 meters wide. The top of the vimana has a pidha that has been brought from pabhaga kalasa. A bada gandi stands from bottom to top of the temple.
