Manipur Shri Govindji Temple Of New Palace
The sacred worship place is located close to present king palace. This sacred Hindu temple was constructed by Churachand, king of the state. Lord Govindji and his consort have been shifted from old temple of Govindji in Kangla palace to current temple. It is a known fact that the temple is surrounded by natural beauty. There is a lake as well as a temple garden with lush green trees. Krishna Janamashtami is the main festival of the area and during it visitors or devotees all over the state gather here to have the blessings of lord Govindji.
History
It was constructed many centuries ago by Manipur rulers. However, it was renovated and developed by other rulers of the state. However, originally this temple was constructed in the year of 1846 AD by Nara Singh, king of Manipur. However, this sacred Hindu worship place was highly damaged in 1868 earthquake. Moreover, the sacred idols of Govinda and Radha were being damaged when one of the parts of this sacred temple greatly collapsed in horrible earthquake. Later it was renovated or reconstructed by the king of Manipur, Cheitharo K. M. Chandrakirti. This sacred Hindu worship place is devoted to its main deity Govindji or Lord Shri Krishna as well as his consort goddess Radha.
How to Reach
By Air
Imphal municipal airport is the nearest airport. So visitors can easily get direct flights to Imphal city from various domestic airports in the country.
By Rail or Train
Some of the nearest railway stations are Jiribam railway station only 93 km, Jirighat railway station 97 km and Daotuhaja railway station 102 km distance from Shri Govindji temple of new Palace.
By Road
City of Imphal is also well linked with other neighbouring towns or cities of the state by roads. Hence, visitors or devotees can easily get road-transportation such as buses, cabs and taxis to reach at the temple.
Weather and Time to Visit
Imphal city has very moderate climate condition during monsoon and summer. However, post winter and monsoon are usually cool periods. Hence, due to its climate conditions, the city can be greatly visited throughout the year. But the best time to get there is from the month of September to April.
Winter – from November to February, during this period temperature could drop down to subzero level.
Summer – from April to June, during this period temperature can rise to 16 to 35 degree Celsius.
Monsoon – from July to September, during this period, Imphal enjoys consistent heavy rainfalls.
