Maharashtra Sri Girijatmaj Temple
Lenyadri or landyadri is a sacred site located in district Pune. It is basically famous for Buddhist caves and Hindu temples. The renowned Sri Girijatmaj cave temple is among one of them. This ancient temple is considered among the oldest Ganesha temples in the state. The presiding deity in the temple is called Lord Girijatmaj or Lord Ganesha. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvathi performer penance to have Girjatmaj as her son. The place wherein she performed her penance is now famous as Lenyadri. Hence, apart from idol of Lord Girijatmaj or Ganesha there are also idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi installed. The temple can be reached by using 307 stone-made steps. Moreover, just before the main temple, there is large Sabhamandap or hall situated. At the temple, there are about 18 different rooms for meditation. The idol of Girijatmaj has been installed in the center of the temple. The temple has total 6 stone-made pillars that are carved with various religious pictures.
History
However, there is still no valid evidence regarding the date and time of temple construction yet it is believed that it was constructed thousands of years ago by Devas or angels. According to local folklore, the temple was built by a divine power or supernatural power. However, according to temple scripture, it was constructed by an unknown Hindu dynasty. Moreover, great Maratha king Shivaji renovated the temple many times. The major attraction of the temple is its main idol called Girijatmaj. Remember, Ganesha chaturthi, a festival devoted to lord Ganesha is highly celebrated here. Moreover, during the festival time, followers of Lord Girijatmaj gather here to have sacred Darshan and blessings of God.
Weather and time to visit
The tropical climate condition of the city allows visitors to visit here throughout the year. However, the best time to get there is during the winter season from the month of October to March. However, followers of Lord Ganesha can also visit here during the Ganesha Chaturthi to participate in religious activities held in the temple.

By Road
Regular buses, cars and taxis connect the city to other neighboring parts of the state. Hence, from airport or railway station, visitors or pilgrims can easily hire road-based transportation to reach at the temple.
