Maharashtra Kondeshwar Mandir Badlapur
This temple is tucked away in the area which is rich in nature amidst greenery and waterfalls and ponds that will leave you dumbstruck and there in the lap of nature resides Mahadev’s Shivling for all His devotees to come and pray to Him. The temple is so unique in the way it is situated. It is in a way very symbolic of life where you have to go through a certain bit of difficulty to get to God.
History
This is a very old temple and it has been standing there for so many ages that it is difficult to put a date when it was constructed. The temple of Kondeshwar has been standing there in the times of extreme weather conditions and there have been times when the temple has been submerged. Another example that life has its own shares of ups and down and it is all about perseverance.
Architecture
The temple has very simple architecture and is just a single room structure with a conical roof. The temple is set in the middle of the waterfall and the pond there is also breath taking. There are separate temples for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Mother Shakti.
How to Reach
By Air
Mumbai is the nearest airport and from the airport, there are trains, buses and taxis that you can take to reach Badlapur. The best means would be to take a train from Mumbai to Thane and then from there take taxis to the temple.
By Rail
Thane is well connected to most cities by train and from thane there are suburb trains that go to Badlapur. In fact Badlapur is the last of the stations on the suburb train link and you can then take some local transport like taxis or buses to the temple.
Local Transport
Though there are local buses, these are very rare, so it is better to take the taxis that take you to the temple. The taxis ferry people in groups of five, so if you don’t have a big group then you have to wait for other people to come along.
Important Shrines
The temple has a shrine for Mahadev in the form of a Shiv Ling and then there are temples for Ganesh and Shakti. All these temples are visited by the pilgrims and there are prayers offered to these deities for good health and peace of mind.
Significance of the Temple
This temple is set in the midst of nature and thanks to the waterfall and the pond around, you feel this place is really blessed. This temple gets submerged in the monsoon, but when the waters recede in the summer, and then pilgrims can visit this place
Attractions
The waterfall and the pond that has been formed near the temple are attractions that make tourist visit this place very often. In fact the waters are so inviting, that special police guards are posted at the site of the temple to ensure safety of the pilgrims. Also the area is fenced off at particular spots that have proved fatal in earlier cases, and the pilgrims who come here to offer the prayers are advised not to go beyond these spots.
Timings and Other Important Information
The temple is open right from sunrise till about an hour before sunset. Since this area is not populated, it is better that pilgrims come back before it gets dark as it could be very unsafe under such conditions. The temple is not opened in the monsoon times as it is sometimes submerged in the water.
Weather and time to Visit
Since the flow of water is going to very heavy in the monsoons and the crevice of the crooks in the rocks can pull in the swimmers, so it is best to not go there in the monsoons. The summers are better because the flow of the water is going to be slow and safe for the pilgrims. Choose to visit Kondeshwar Mandir in the summer months and you will have a nice trip.
Accommodation
Badlapur has a few motels and guest houses where you can find accommodation. The trip to temple is a one day affair and you will have to get back by the time it is evening.
Tips for Devotees
The temple is very risky for old people and for kids and good care has to be taken to ensure their safety. Follow all instructions and safety measure of the temple authorities.
