Maharashtra Ganapati Mandir Theoor
This temple is also known as Chintamani temple and dedicated to Lord Ganpati. Location of this temple is at approximately 25 kilometers away from Pune and famous from the name of Ashtvinayak as there are eight different shrines of Lord Ganesha are constructed. The etymology of this temple is also a myth. It is believed that a Wish Jewell was given to Sage Kapil by Lord Ganesha. A cruel and greedy king Gana had pleased Lord Shiv and obtained the spiritual power all over the Trilok. Once the king arrived in sage’s ashram. King and accompanied persons were given food by the sage. Prince wished to have that jewel but the same was not accepted by the sage. Prince seized the same and went. Sage worshipped Lord Ganesh to get back the jewel. Lord Ganesh presented in form of Sahasra Bahu, defeated the Gana and gets back the jewel to sage. Sage was very much pleased and he opted to have Lord Ganesh instead of jewel. Lord Ganesha stayed at this place and gave the name to jewel as Chintamani.
Architecture
Though the exact historical evidences are not available to determine the dates of construction. Though the original temple was there since long ago and the same was destroyed under various natural calamities. This temple is constructed in just reverse pattern from south Indian temples. Gopuram or entrance of the temple has not been given the brilliance of architecture and in this place a log corridor with steel row – railing is constructed for making the queue of devotees to reach the idol of Lord Ganpati. The verandah is wide more than 22ft and based on 1ft round pillars. At the end of this verandah the main Garbhagriha is constructed. This building is two storied and upper portion of the temple is constructed in Rajputana style. Arches like medieval construction, small dome over the roof of Garbhagriha is like open bud of lotus is some of the attractive architectural features. On both sides of the corridor, wide plinth areas has been constructed and covered with the interlocking tiles to provide the space to the devotees. Roof of the corridor is conical and layered with brick tiles. The corridor is only the wooden structure in this temple and used as Sabha sthal. This hall has also been provided with a fountain for increasing the beauty. In the central icon of Lord Ganesh kept here, it is believed that the idol is developing day by day and presently only the head of an elephant is viewable. It is a local belief that when all the body parts of this idol will appear, all the evils will be removed from society.
Festivals
Prakashotsav is the main festival celebrated at this temple. Just after this festival, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated. Maghotsav is also celebrated at this temple and considered the date of birth of Lord Ganesha. On the Ashtami of Kartik another festival named Rama-Madhav Punyotsava is celebrated.
