History.

Nobody exactly knows how and why the temple was established but certain historians and priests believe that the premises of Chakreshwar Temple emerged in the 10th century. It is uncertain to say what the complex held for during the time, but the fact that farmers from the village, even today get stone sculptures, carvings, idols and many such kind of treasure while plowing their farms makes us think of the Chakreshwar temple Complex to be a flooding centre of art and religion in its era.

How to Reach Kolhapur

The Kolhapur district happens to be one of the most important places of Maharashtra and hence is extremely well connected.

By Air

The nearest airport is situated at Kolhapur and offers several flights to major cities in India. Once in Kolhapur, Cabs and Autos may take you to Titte.

By Rail

Tette also has a railway station itself but is not that well connected by trains hence people chose to get to Kolhapur and drive down from there.

By Road

One can reach Tette from Kolhapur as both the places boast of good connections with various cities in and around the state.

The Chakreshwar temple is an integral part of the pilgrimage and is a compulsory visit for the devotees of the Mahalazmi Temple.  The idols it houses have a striking resemblance to the idols at Mahalxmi Temple.

• Tette is neither a tourist place nor a town and hence has hardly anything to offer as accommodation.
• Certain small low end accommodation options are available for emergencies though.
• Kolhapur offers a wide range of options for accommodation and should be preffered.

Tips for Devotees

Once in the Chakreshwar Compound one must have close look at the ancient idols present around there. The archeological treasure is available to one and all. Apart from a compulsory visit to the Mahalaxmi Temple, one must also pay a visit to ‘Shikhar’. A way full of carved rocks and after a 20 minute climb you reach the Shikhar which is the tallest part of Kolhapur.
