Thuravoor Tirumala Devasom Lakshmi Narasimha temple is situated in Thuravoor; it is a small village in Kochi district, Kerala state of India. The temple has the presiding deity, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. There are steps made in the temple and various Lords are placed accordingly. The first step is depicted with the idol of Venkatachalapathy, the second step has the idol of Vishnu padakkam then the third step is left empty and it is considered that the place belongs to the idol of Ugra Narasimha. The last step that is, the fourth step has the idol of Utsavamurthy.
The temple also comprises of some other sub temples which includes the temple of Lord Ganapati situated inside Nalambalam, then the idol of Hanuman which is considered as the Vrindavan of the 11th pontiff of Kashi mutt, Srimad Rajendra Tirtha Swamy.
History
The history of this temple is very interesting. A business person named Sri Raval came to Thuravoor where in those days Gouda Saraswat Brahmins belonging to the Konkani region were restricted to offer their prayer in the Hindu temple in Kerala. He used to worship daily but only from the outside. Once it is said that he heard some voice, which was directing him to move westwards. As he followed the voice, he was instructed to place the idol of Lord Narsimha in a particular place. When he looked around, he saw some sculptors. He asked them to make the idol of Lord Narasimha. This place now is called Thuravoor Tirumala Devasom Lakshmi Narasimha temple. He has also built a temple named Sri Lakshmi Narasimha.
Festival
The festival at this temple is named Vahanas and the Arattu festival. Sri Narasimha had number of vahanas such as Garuda, Aswa, Hanuman, Chandra, Hamsa, Iravatha and Seshavahanas among them aswavahanas is considered the biggest vahanas. During the fifth day of the festival Lord Narasimha is held out of the temple along with the silver palanquin in the streets near to the Vigneswara temple till the poojas are done. On the sixth day the idol is taken in the north direction towards the Arthikulangara Bhagavathy temple. Then on the seventh day, with great glory idol is taken to the backside of the Bhagavathy temple in AswaVahana. Lastly, on the eighth day the idol is taken to the Arattukulam near the Arthikulangara Bhagavathy temple for Arattu. After all the poojas and snanam, the idol returns back to the temple.
Mode to Reach
The temple is located 25 km away from the Kochi city and it is just 45 kms far off from the international airport of Kochi. Therefore devotees can easily reach the temple.
