Kerala Thrikkalanjoor Sree Mahadeva Temple
Thrikkalanjoor Sree Mahadeva temple of Kalanjoor is devoted to its main deity Lord Shiva or Mahadeva. This Mahadeva temple is considered among the oldest Shiva temples in the state. The temple is also famous for its magnificent sacred mural paintings that depict the story of God and Goddess. Apart from main Shiva deity, there is also some other important idols of Hindu Gods and Goddess are installed. Here, inside the sacred mandapa, devotees can see the divine idol of God Nataraja, MahaShiva idol and Sastha idols.
History
It is believed that Thrikkalanjoor Sree Mahadeva temple was constructed by an unknown dynasty during the 13th of century. According to legend, during the construction of the temple, most of the people experienced a divine presence. Legend says that the banyan tree near the temple is also very sacred. It is said, under this banyan tree, a saint perform his penance and attain the ultimate salvation. This is the main reason; most of the devotees also worship this sacred banyan tree. Local inhabitants believe that this sacred banyan tree has some spiritual or supernatural power thus fulfill all the desires of devotees.
Architecture
The sacred Thrikkalanjoor Sree mahadeva Mandir or temple is not only a sacred Shiva temple but also a specimen of fine architecture. The walls of the temple are adored with mural paintings that show the spiritual stories of God and Goddess. Moreover, just inside the sacred Mandapa, a magnificent idol of Lord Nataraja has been installed. It is a known fact that Lord Nataraja is an amazing dancing manifestation of God Shiva. The major attraction of this temple is, a sixty feet tall Gopuram, situated on the eastern part of the temple. Moreover, the eighteen steps from this Gopuram lead to divine idol of lords Mahasiva and Indiliyappan.

By Air
Trivandrum international airport is the nearest airport located only 80 km distance from Kalanjoor town.
By Rail or Train
Kalanjoor town is well linked with other neighboring towns or cities of the state by Indian railway network. Some of the nearby railway stations are Auvaneswarem railway station only 10 km, Punalur railway station 14 km and Kottarakara railway station 18 km distance from the town.
By Road
Visitors or devotes can easily reach at Mahadeva temple by using road-based transportation such as buses, private taxis and cabs. However, KSRTC also run regular buses throughout the state.
Weather and Time to Visit
Thrikkalanjoor Sree Mahadeva temple can be reached throughout the year. However, the best time to visit there from the month of October to November. Visitors and devotees can also visit the temple during Mahashivratri, a festival devoted to lord Shiva.
