Kerala Pavumba Kali Amma Temple
The Pavumba kali is one of the rarest kinds of temples of South India. Because of being so special it is quite famous too. It is located in Karunaga pally taluk in the Kollam district. It was found in the ruin by the Archaeologists and was in a totally destroyed condition. The devotees here reconstructed the temple in their terms. The temple is administered by 15 members belonging to north and south Manapally.
History
The temple became popular because of Pavumbakali. The myth goes that a Brahmin boy who performed the rituals fell in love with a girl from the Kurava community. The girl was not keen to go into a relationship so she committed suicide. It is believed that this girl after her death turned out to be goddess Kali.
Significance
The main deities are that of SreePrameswaran, AnnaporneswariSreeParvathy and Pavumbakali, the AbhishttaVaradayini. People from different religions, caste and creed come together to worship the shrines. Other deities at this temple are: Ganapathi, Sastha, Naga Raja, Madan, Yakshi and Nagayakshi. The temple is decorated with wonderful paintings. Various sculptures implement the ancient stories of Puranas. There are two pillars that hoist the temple flag.
Best Time to Visit
The people come to the temple for worship on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The shortest route to the temple from National Highway 47 is just 7 Km away. People from all over the world visits this temple in the month of October and November.
