Kerala Ammachiveedu Devi Temple
Ammachiveedu Muhurthi temple is situated in the Kollam district and was built before 600 years. In this temple the annual function is celebrated for 10 days. The festival is called Dhanufestival. Though, there are no official records for confirmation of construction of the dates of the temple but it is assumed according to the style of construction the period has been determined before 600 years. Ammachiveedu family constructed this temple. This is only the temple in Kollam district which is dedicated to a teacher not to any religious god or goddess. The main deity of the temple has been the main functionary in various marriages ceremonies of the Ammachiveedu family. Being the deity is a Guru, the family members of Ammachiveedu are not authorized to enter the temple premises. They can only maintain and contribute from outside in the development and routine activities of the temple. Irrespective of any caste, all the persons of locality visit this temple on daily basis this is the symbol of social harmony.
Architecture
This temple is constructed under traditional Dravidian style. Garbhagriha is made on very systematic design and planning as the interior of the temple has sculptures according to the nature of temple. This temple is also having a small platform which is covered with silver lining. Garbhagriha of the temple is small and having the dimensions of 4 x 4 x 6’. On the small platform, two golden Shankhas are placed. Inside the temple, there are a number of other deities whose idols are kept in systematic way. The temple is filled with the idols of Yakshi, Rekshas and Gandharvs. There is the provision of Muslim community to worship in the temple as the deity is also worshipable by all the communities of the society.
Festivals
In this temple Dhanu festival is celebrated for 10 days. In this festival a large number of devotees come across the country. Sarpa Bali is also done in this temple. This is the only temple having this tradition. But the sacrifice is made for the snakes and not of the snakes. Annual festival of the temple is celebrated on any date irrespective of any particular month of Nakshatra date. On the last day of the festival senior most male member of the Ammachiveedu family conducts a Pooja and the offerings made to the deity.

National Highway No. 47, 220 and 208 are directly connected with this temple and provide an easy and fast transportation to access the temple. A person from Trivandrum and Chennai or other nearby cities can easily reach this location on affordable charges.
