It is a known fact that Karnataka state is known for its historical significances and ancient temples. The renowned Sri Panchalingeshwara temple is among one of them. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is a living specimen of Hoysala dynasty’s architecture. According to the Hindu mythology, this temple is among the five important temples which have Shivalinga. This is the main reason why this temple is generally called as Panchalingeshwara temple. History

It is the most popular temple in the area of Vittal. Vittal has total sixteen villages and situated near Hosur and Bangalore Highway. The five important lingas including Thatpurusha, Varnadeva, Sadyojatha, Ishana and Aghora are greatly installed in the temple. Bhagwana Shiv is embodiment of total five Pancha features. According to the historian, Sri Panchalingeshwara temple was constructed by the Pandavas. However, Hegde dynasty renovated this temple and it was considered as the main deity of Hegdes people. This temple dates back to about 7 to 8 AD.
Architecture
The renowned Sri Panchalingeshwara temple is a unique piece of Hoysala kind of architecture. The temple has total three tiered roof-area as well as the making shape just like an elephant’s back. Visitors can easily check out the Hoysala kind of architecture throughout the temple area. The famous Ruvari Mallitamma was responsible for its religious sculpture and design. The Temple’s Gopuras are exclusive in terms of size, shape and design. It can be seen that Sri Panchalingeshwara temple was constructed without any kind of pedestal. It is constructed in such style so that it always faces east. The religious cow or Nandi has been built just at the entrance-gate of the temple. The sacred Garbha Griha of Sri Panchalingeshwara temple contains many Goddesses and Gods such as Ganesha, Shiva, Subramanya and Mata Parvati. However, this temple also underwent to get renovation in 2007. The major renovation areas are including Nidhukumba, Garbhanyasa, Kumudha, Jagathi etc.

By Air
Visiting Sri Panchalingeshwara temple by using Air transport is a better option. Some of the nearest airports are including Bengaluru international airdrome only 31 km, Mysore airport about 142 km and Salem airport around 178 km distance from town of Vittal.
By Rail
Visitors or devotees can reach there by using railway transportation. The nearest railway stations are including Bangalore Cant rail head only 3 km, Bngalore east railway station around 4 km and Bangalore Junior railway station also 3 km far from Vittal town.
By Road
Road-based transportation is a better option to reach at the temple, so, visitors or devotees can use it as per their convenience.

The weather of Vittal is typical Indian climate which hot in summer and cold in winter. Hence, pilgrims or visitors can visit Sri Panchalingeshwara temple throughout the year.
