Karnataka Marikamba Temple
History
Sirsi town is located in Uttar Kannada district and this temple is dedicated to Goddess Marikamba. The temple was constructed by King Sadashiva Rao in the year 1611. He was the second king of his dynasty. This is also an aspect that goddess Marikamba is equally worshipped in Uttara Kannada and Dakshin Kannada districts of Karnataka. Another important feature of this temple is that the idol of main deity is made of wood. King Sadashiva Rao discovered this statue from a tank in the outskirts of the Sirsi town. He established the same and constructed a temple around it. Every year a numbers of devotees across the country reach here to get the blessings of goddess. It is also believed that the presence of goddess Marikamba in the area saves the devotees from various types of natural calamities. In the area, from decades, no flood activity is seen while the geographical conditions of the area are sufficient enough to invite floods. This temple is also known as Devasthanam.
Architecture
This temple is architected in simple design. Very huge building with sloppy roof provides an attractive look. Temple is double storied and front portion is having a huge and wide entrance gate. On both sides of main gate, there are six small gates which are presently closed and being used as windows. Entrance has semi circular shape with and arch of a mixed architectural style of Islamic and traditional Hindu temple construction design. All the entrances (open or closed) have arches and beautiful carved work till the height of first floor base (as looks from front side). Upper portion of the temple has proper ventilation system and a roof made of concrete slabs namely”Tiles” or “Khapra”. On both the corners of roof and in middle also a small conical lid is also paces to avoid water entrance inside. Height of the temple is 5.5’ from ground level and to make this height easy for devotees, 7 stairs have been placed with a platform after three steps from starting. Two elephants have been placed with elevated trunk on both sides of the main entrance. Approach road is till the mandir and local conveyances are easily reached at the destination.

Hubli is the nearest airport located at the distance of 119 kilometers and connected with various major cities of the country. Though Bangalore International Airport is also the nearest one located at 418 kilometers and well connected with international destinations.
By Rail
Kumta is the nearest railway station located at 61 Kilometers from this temple. Road conveyances are easily available.
By Road
Road connectivity to Sirsi is well from other districts too. KSRTC buses and taxies are available to reach till the temple. Auto rickshaws are also there to access this temple. Some other cities like, Shimoga and Dharwad are also connected with this Devasthanam.
