The ISKON temple houses the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha and is situated in Rajaji nagar that is located in the Northern Bangalore in Karnataka India. There are many temples of ISKON that are spread all over the world but the ISKON temple of Bangalore is the largest in the world. The temple was inaugurated by Shankar Dayal Sharma in the year 1997. The idol of the deity was installed in April 1997. The founder of the ISKON temple is A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who has benefitted everyone by spreading the concept of Vedic culture and the related spiritual learning’s. The temple is spread over a seven-acre hillock and the hill is also named as “Hare Krishna Hill”. The temple is situated towards the West of the Chord Road in Bangalore. The temple also admires the birth anniversary of Sri Prabhupada who is also the founder of the ISKON temples.
The temple of ISKON in Bangalore has a total of six altars and these are named as the altars of Radha-Krishna, Krishna and Balrama, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda, Srinivasa Govinda,Prahlada Narasimha, Srila Prabhupada.
The temple celebrates number of festivals that have link to either Lord Vishnu or to the Vedic culture. Few of the festivals celebrated in the temple can be named as Rama Navami, Narasimha Jayanti, Ratha Yatra, Balaram Jayanti, Jhulan Utsav, Krishna Janmashtami, Sri Radhashtami, Govardhan Puja, Deepotsava and Krishna Shringar.
Few of the major attractions of the Bangalore ISKON temple are the Vedic Theatre, the Vedic museums and the area for exhibition, the presentation theater that houses total ten small computers, the lecture hall that preaches about the Vedic culture. The temple is also surrounded by rich grass landscapes. The temple complex always can be heard with the chants of “Hare Krishna Hare Rama”.
The temple experiences a total of eight thousand to ten thousand worshippers daily while this number increases on the weekends. The most popular program that is part of the temple is the Akshaya Patra.
The path that leads to the main altar in the temple is adored by the water jets. The ceilings of the temple display the paintings of the Russian artists.
ISKON temple has been from time to time being organizing the social and religious events. In the year 2000 there was a religious program started that has the aim to spread peace all over the world. The mantra of this event was to chant the name of Shri Krishna a total of one billion times. An isolated site was built up and this area was named Harinama Mandapa or the Nama Japa and each of the devotees is expected to chant the “Hare Krishna Mahamantra” while climbing the 108 steps that lead to the main temple. Only when one has recited this mantra 108 times is allowed to enter the Narasimha temple. The steps that lead to the temple are dedicated to Prahlada Narasimha.
Architecture
The temple has a flag post that is 17 meters high is plated with gold, there is also a kalashshikara that is 8.5 meters high and this is also gold plated. While the visit to the temple devotees are offered the prasadam.
The architecture of the temple is based on the Neo-Classical style. The construction of the temple is done using the glass and Gopuram that is very similar to in the architecture that resembles any modern South-Indian temple. The glass canopy connects the four “Gopurams” that are located in the temple and these makes one of the reasons to visit the ISKON temple in Bangalore.
