Karnataka Durga Parameshwari
This sacred Hindu worship place is a renowned pilgrimage thus thousands of visitors or devotees visit here to have Darshan and blessings of Maa Durga Parameshwari every year. According to the Hindu mythology, when demon Arunasura was killing various sages and became a problem for the people and saints then saint Jabali worshiped Maa Durga to kill the demon. Hence, goddess Durga met Arunasura in the form of a beautiful lady and killed the demon. However, Arunusura also attacked on goddess but she changed herself into a rock and demon attacked on rock.
History
However, there is no proper evidence regarding the construction date and history of this ancient temple but as per the legend this temple was built centuries ago by an unknown dynasty. According to the Hindu mythology, Maa Durga Parameshwari killed the demon Arunasura at this place. Legend explains that demon Arunasura killed many sages and threatened Devas thus on the request of them goddess Durga Parameshwari came to met demon in the form of charming lady and killed him. This sacred Hindu worship place is situated in the centre of river Mahanandhini. Moreover, during the festival of Navaratri, visitors or pilgrims all over the country gather here to get the blessings of goddess Durga Parameshwari every year. The temple has a Garbhagriha wherein sacred idols of many Hindu Gods and goddess installed.

By Road
By using buses, cars and taxis, visitors or devotees can easily get there.
By Rail
Some of the nearest railway stations are Mulki railway station only 8 km, Surathkal railway station 9 km and Thokur railway station 10 far from Durga Parameshwari temple. Hence, from the railway station visitors or pilgrims can hire taxis, cabs and bus to reach at the temple.
By Air
The nearest airport is Bajpe airport located only 9 km away from the town and connects it to various other cities of the country.
Weather and Time to Visit
Kateel town has a changeable climate condition. It means during summers the temperature rises to 44 degree Celsius while in winters, temperature dropping down to 12 degree Celsius. However, during the monsoons that occurs especially in the month of July, the town experiences sometimes heavy rainfall. So the best time to visit at Durga Parameshwari temple is from October to March.
