Karnataka Dodda Ganapathi Temple
This ancient Hindu temple is placed next to renowned bull temple and very near to famous Bugle Rack area. The Dodda Ganapathi Mandir or temple is considered among one of the sacred Hindu worship places in the state. The presiding deity of the temple is 18 feet tall and 16 feet broad. According to the Hindu mythology, lord Ganesha is a son of lord Shiva and he should be worshiped first in any religious performance.
History
The temple was built by founder of city Bangalore, Shri Kempe Gowda. According to folklore, one day Kempe Gowda was going somewhere in mid-way he found a rock in shape of Lord Ganesha or Ganpathi he then ordered to his skilled sculptors to make the Ganesha shape into a full massive idol of Bhagwana Ganapathi or lord Ganesha . It is a known fact that Lord Ganesha also called Satya Ganapathi or Shakti Ganapathi. It is believed that Dodda Ganapathi’s idol is rising on the right side.
The renowned Dodda Ganapathi Mandir or temple of Basavanagudi, Bangalore attracts thousands of devotees of visitors towards it throughout the year. During the famous Ganesha Utsava, followers or devotees from all over the country visit at Dodda Ganapathi temple to have Darshan and blessings of Lord Ganesha. Moreover, the deity in the temple is also known for its attractive decorations. The renowned Benne Alankara is one of them as it is done by using 100 kilograms butter.

By Air

The nearest railway station is Bangalore city junior railway station only 2 km distance from the temple. Some other nearest railway stations are Navandahalli railway station only 5 km, Jnana Bharati railway station 7 km and Bangalore Cant railway station also 7 km distance from the temple. Hence, from railway station visitors or devotees can hire taxis, buses and cabs to get there.
By Road
Being a metro city Bangalore is well connected with all other major cities of the country by roads. Hence, visitors or pilgrims can also use roadways to reach at Dodda Ganapathi temple.
Weather and Time to Visit
The climate condition in Bangalore city is changeable. It means during summers it becomes hot and scorching while in winters it becomes cold. However, during monsoons, the city experiences often heavy rainfall. So the best time to visit at Dodda Ganapathi temple is from October to March.
