Jammu & Kashmir Raghunath Temple
Raghunath Temple is one of the major tourist attractions in the northern part of the country. This is a temple which was built way back in the 18th century and the primary deity here is Lord Rama who is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is also one of the most accessible temples near Jammu and a pilgrimage tour to the northern part of India will not be complete without paying a visit to Ragunath temple and offering your prayers to Lord Raghunath or Lord Ram.
History
This temple was constructed way back in the 18th century by Maharaja Gulab Singh who also happens to be the founder of Jammu & Kashmir and then later completed by his son Maharaja Rambir Singh. The construction was started by the father in 1835 and it was completed only in 1860 by his son.

The Raghunath temple can be easily reached from the Jammu Airport by hiring a taxi or even boarding one of the frequent buses.

The Katra Railway station is just a few kilometers away from the temple and it can also be easily reached through any means of transport.

The temple is well connected to Jammu through the means of frequent buses or taxis that can be easily hired.
Important Shrines
While the primary deity of the Raghunath temple may be Lord Ram, it also has shrines for other deities as well. The temple has huge shikhars (spires) for every shrine. The central shrine is dedicated to Lord Ram, the primary deity. There are other shrines in the temple dedicated to various other incarnations of Vishnu. There is also a shrine for Lord Surya, the Sun God, which stands out from the rest.
Significance of The Temple
This temple is known for housing huge statues of Gods and Goddesses. Maharaja Gulab Singh chose to cover the interior walls with gold sheets on three sides. This temple is also known for its gallery which is said to contain various Lingams and Saligrams.

This temple celebrates almost all festivals as it houses most of the gods. The most common ritual includes both the morning and evening aartis for all the gods in the temple.
