Himachal Bhagsunag Temple
This sacred Hindu temple is surrounded by beautiful waterfalls thus presents a natural scenic view. Apart from that the location is also known for its mythological importance. The total seven streams that present at this sacred place are believed to be very healing. It is said the water of near by pond has spiritual power thus it cures people from various diseases. The major attraction of the temple is its special religious Puja, known as Bhagsunag Puja. The sacred Bhagsunag Puja is being performed at the temple since more than 150 years.
History
However, there is no proper evidence regarding the history of sacred Bhagsunag temple yet as per the folklore, the temple was built by king Bhangsung who was a great follower of Lord Shiva. However, the Bhagsunag temple is devoted to lord Shiva but it also devoted to Nag or snake. It is said the Nag in the temple was a sacred mythological character who protected the temple and the area from demons. It is a known fact that Bhagsunag temple is among one of the oldest temples in the state. During the festival of Mahashivratri, people from all over the state and neighbouring states visit the temple in order to have sacred Darshan of Lord Shiva.
According to legend, the pond near the temple has spiritual power thus it cures people from various known and unknown diseases. The major attraction of the temple is its special religious performance, known as Bhagsunag Puja which is said being performed at the sacred place from centuries. However, last time this sacred Puja was conducted on 19th of April in the year of 2007.
How to Reach
By Air
Gaggal airport is the nearest airport that connects city to all other major cities of the country. Hence, from airport visitors of pilgrims can hire local transportation such as buses, cabs and taxis to reach at Bhagsunag temple.
By Rail
The nearest railway station is situated at Kangra town.
By Road
The area of Mcleodganj is well connected with all other neighbouring towns or cities of the state by developed roads. So visitors or pilgrims can easily reach at the temple by using roadways.
Weather and Time to Visit
The climate condition in the Kangra district is like all other parts of the state. It means the town remains cool most of the year. During summers temperature rises to maximum 24 degree Celsius while in winters especially in the month of January the temperature below down to 1 to 0 degree Celsius. Hence the best time to visit at Bhagsunag temple is from September to May.
