Delhi Sri Aiyyappa Swamy Temple Rohini
Sree Aiyyappa Swami temple is located in Rohini, Sector-7 New Delhi. This temple is a result of efforts made by some south Indian devotees of Lord Aiyyappa. They formed a committee in 1971 and started organizing various Poojas and Kirtans of Lord Aiyyappa. Later by their efforts, a temple was founded in 1997 and foundation stone was laid by Thantri of Sabrimala temple of Kerala. The planning and designing of Garbhalaya of this temple was made by famous temple architect Sri Kanippayoo Krishnan Nampoothiri. After performing all the necessary and initial formalities of establishment of a temple according to south Indian tradition, this temple was opened for general people with effect from 19th April 1999. Idols of Navgraha (Nine Planets) were created and established in this temple on 6th April 2000. On this day, an auditorium was also opened in this temple for participating in routine Aarti and Poojas.
Architecture
Architecture of this temple is not much different than other Aiyyappan temples located in Delhi. Though, Aiyyappan temples constructed in southern portion of India have a different look but in Delhi, all the Aiyyappan temples are almost equal. Entrance, exterior and interiors of this temple are same as in the Aiyyappa temples located in RK Puram or in any other portion of Delhi. As a general review, this temple has a co-resemblance with the Ghansham Das Birla mandirs constructed in various parts of the country. Gopuram is also not constructed in this temple. Central hall has a huge space to accommodate at least 77 peoples with the Aarti and Pooja articles. Garbhalaya of the temple is having a conical top but surrounded by the roves of corridors. Mandapam has a conical roof with ventilation facility as during Pooja and Havan, flame and smoke need to be outsided.
Festivals
Each year on 1st April to 6th April, Annual festival of this temple is celebrated on large scale. Devotees from all over India participate in this festival.
Pratishtha Dinam, Painguini Uttram, Mandala Pooja, Makara Sankrama Pooja and Meda Vishu are also celebrated in this temple.
Except the above mentioned festivals, Shri Vinayaka Chaturthi, Shri Durga Mahotsava, Navarathri festivals are also celebrated with full zeal and devotion.
