Delhi Gauri Shankar Mandir Chandni Chowk
The Gauri Shankar Mandir is dedicated to Hindu deities Shankar and His consort Gauri. Shankar is another name for Shiva and Mata Parvati is regarded as Gauri. The temple is located close Digambar Jain Lal Mandir. It is situated on the major Old Delhi Road at Chandni Chowk.
History
The temple possesses an ancient Shiva Lingam, which is about 800 years old. The temple was built in 1790 AD. A Maratha soldier Apa Ganga Dhara built the temple, who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. His name has been inscribed at the entrance of the temple on lower portion of a pyramidal architecture. Seth Jaipura took initiatives of renovating the temple in 1959. The temple has idols of Shiva and Parvati and their sons Karthikeya and Ganesha. The idols are adorned with gold jewelry and stand under a silver canopy. The temple is beautifully adorned with embellished silver sheets. The mandir was also decorated with precious stones and gold, which were later taken off after the Gold Control Order was passed in 20th century.

Chandni Chowk is a populous and crowdy area with frequent traffic jam. If you are not too sure about the roadways that would lead you to the temple, you should hire buses or taxis. You can travel by the metro as well. Carry food and water with you while making the journey from Chandni Chowk main area to the temple, as the crowdy roads might take long to be traversed.
Rules and Rituals of The Temple
Maha Shiva Ratri
The Maha Shivaratri festival is celebrated in four halves of two days. The festival is held during Chaturdashi (day before Amavasya) and ends after Amavasya (no-moon day).
