Chhattisgarh Ganga Maiya
Ganga Maiya Temple located in Balod Tehsil in Chattisgarh is a religious place of importance. Strategically located near the Balod-Durg road, this temple is easily accessible from any district of Chhattisgarh.
History
The legend says that a fishermean got an idol in his net along with the catch and though he tried to remove the idol, it remained stuck in the net. Interestingly the very same night a tribal, Gond had a dream that "I am being ignored by fishermen and take me out and get installed". Accordingly he retrieved the idol next morning and installed it in a hut. It was named Ganga Maiya as it was retrieved from the water.
The temple underwent a series of reconstruction procedures since the initial makeover of Shri Bhikam Chand Tawri, who gave a unique design to the temple structure. The shrine of Ganga Maiya Temple attracts scores of devotees all round the year who vist the temple to gain the holy blessings of the Goddess. The temple trust also plays a pro active role in organizing free medical camps and cultural events in the village. The temple remains open from Morning: 6am to 12 am. and from Afternoon 1 pm to 9 pm.
Though the idol was placed in a tiny hut initially, as the devotion of Ganga Maiya started to spread, donations poured in from all over, a temple complex was constructed.
Best Time to Visit
Navratri is the best time to visit this temple. It is celebrated twice a year in the months of Chaitra and Kunwar of the Hindu calender. During this festival that extends to nine days, devotees fast and chant prayers. Many people visit this place on foot from long distances. During the Hindu festival of Navaratri, the temple transforms into a festive place with thousands of worshippers of Maa Durga coming here for celebrating the festival and taking an active part in the rituals as well. During those periods the entire temple complex is decked up with lightings and various fairs and festivals are observed.

By Air
The domestic airport in Raipur operates regular flights to all major airports in the country.
By Rail
The railheads at Raipur and Bilaspur are served by many trains from different places.
By Road
The National Highway No. 6, 16 and 43 link all the important cities of Chhattisgarh and ensures easy access. Local buses from Durg are convenient options to reach Ganga maiya temple. Taxis are also available.
Accomodation
Though there are a few hotels and resorts near the temple, it is recommended to stay at Raipur where budget accommodation is available in plenty.
Other Attractions
There are many popular tourist spots like Dhamtari and Dalli-Rajhara in Durg District. The other must see spots include Tandula Dam, Siyadevi Temple and a spectacular water fall.
