Significance of the Temple
According to the Hindu mythology, there was a time when Yama, who considered as a God of hell complained to Lord Brahma Bhagwana that no human being is coming to his hell from sacred Kamarupa just because of holiness of the place, even instead of doing various sins. Lord Brahma forwards the information to lord Vishnu and then Vishnu Bhagwana forward to Lord Shiva. Bhagwana Shiva ordered Ugratara to displace all the individuals living at Kamakhya. Ugrotara went with her army. However, meanwhile people complained to saint Vashishtha who cursed Shiva and Ugro Tara. That is why from that time and onwards all Shiva Sadhnas has been given up at Kamarupa. Moreover, Ugra Tara turned into Goddess of famous Vamachara sadhna.
