History and Architecture
According to various archeological surveys this temple was constructed during 8th to 10th century AD. At that period, in Assam area the ruling dynasty was Salasthambha. It is evident from history that a stone temple existed at that place as some of the large pillars are still found as ruins in the close surroundings of the temple. With the time, damages occurred and original temple declined. At the same place this new temple was constructed. Another big damage demolished this temple in 1897 when a big earthquake hit the area. At present the temple is standing is the result of efforts of as monk namely Shri Swaymbhar Bharti who is popularly known in the area as Naga Baba. A Nut Mandir is also constructed near this temple. Later some idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman made from concrete were established in this temple. Presently this temple is under observation by state government and all the administrative affairs are being looked after by Assam government.
