Andhra Pradesh Devipuram
Vishakhapattanam district of Andhra Pradesh state is the main location of this Hindu temple. This temple complex is also a School of Hinduism known as Shakta School. This temple is constructed in dedication towards Goddess Sahasrakshi. In simple meanings, Sahasrakshi is who has thousand eyes. Referential meaning is that the goddess has a wide angle of viewing her devotees and blessings are continuing from her each eye towards every person who remember and prey her. This temple is also located at various parts of the country. In Bihar, there is a grand temple is constructed as Triupursundari Maa. Temple. Lord Kameshwar is the counterpart of the goddess and also a form of Lord Shiva. Main deity of the temple is Maa Sahasrakshi and a Garland of Swords is provided to the goddess. In this temple more than 100 idols of various gods and goddesses are kept. Surroundings of the temple are scenic and hilly. Greenery of nearby area and fast orange color of the temple provide and attractive look.
History
This temple was constructed during 1994. Though the construction was started in 1985 and took nine years in completion as some of the legal affairs connected with land acquisition were in court. Dr. N. Prahalada Sastri is the founder of this elegant temple. Dr. Sastri, who was a scientist in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, shouldered the responsibility of construction of this magnificent temple. He saw various visions of Maa Sahasrakshi in dreams and motivated to initiate for this noble task. Required land was acquisitioned but owing to some official problems, the construction delayed and after finalization of the dispute, more land was acquired for construction of this grand temple with premises and approach road. Dr. Sastri generally known as “Guruji” saw the goddess as a girl of sixteen and by her blessings; he inspired to construct this temple. On the hillocks, he also constructed a Peeth named Kamakhya Peetham and Shri Meru Yantra were established there which Guruji discovered through and excavation.
Architecture and Significance
Devipuram temple is basically dedicated to Maa Sahasrakshi and built in a magnificent three storied structure. Outer look of the temple is like Shri Meru equipment. Generally this temple is in the shape of Shri Chakra. Height of the temple is 54 ft and the surface dimension is spread in 108 ft. Ground floor is designed with the central hall surrounded with porches and supported by pillars as well. Star shaped balconies of each floor are arranged in such a manner that provide look of a multi angled star. Construction of the first floor has been done above the central hall and a large outer space is left for general sitting during routine prayers. Stair case from 1st floor to 2nd floor has been made and the third floor has been constructed over the central hall. Outer area of more than 36’ is left at each floor to provide ease to the devotees. Dome has been fixed like in the bud of a lotus flower. Aerial look of this temple is just like Shri Chakra.Various idols have been fixed in such a manner that general architectural look and pattern of the temple is not disturbed. Three sided entrance has been provided with various small huts having tiled roves for ease of devotees. A large mansion containing more than 200 air conditioned halls with all amenities is opened for staying of devotees.
