Andhra Pradesh Boyakonda Gangamma Chowdepalle
Gangamma temple is a symbol of Shakti in Telugu culture. This temple is located near Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh state of India. This temple is a dedication to the Venkteswara’s sister. From Bangaluru, the distance of this temple is 153 kilometers and well connected with road transportation. Geographical coordinates of this temple are 13°25'58"N 78°39'7"E. In nearby cities, Ramasamudram is famous and in close vicinity. Endowments department of the state has taken over the responsibility of maintenance of this temple during 1990. Amenities and facilities are being developed for devotees regularly by the frequent interference of state government since 1990.
History
It is said that tribal of the area, who called Boya and Yelika once protested hard against the torture of Golkunda Nawab’s Army. Nawab sent additional troops to control the revolt and tribal climbed on hillock to prey the goddess to save them. Shakti arrived from sky and saved the tribal and Nawab’s Army crushed badly. To mark the victory, this temple was made by the tribal. This temple is constructed over a huge well. This well is known as Pushkarni and there is a belief in the local people that the water of this well is holy.
Architecture and Significance of The Temple
This temple is constructed in square style. Six porches of square shape are well connected with each other with a single roof. This is a double stories temple. Ground floor is used only as shed of the well. Entire temple is based on pillars and seventeen white marble stairs bring a devotee inside the temple. Pillars on porches of the temple are fine example of carving. The architectural style is a mixture of traditional Dravidian, Portuguese and Kakatiyan style of temples. Premises are covered with Jali work and small dome at regular interval have been provided. Middle section of pillar is thin while bottom and upper portion is provided with a better and thick carving. Inside the temple, there are four passages for easy conveyance of devotees. Maa Gangamma, who is incarnation of Shakti, is the main deity of this temple. It is believed that the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled by the deity and indication to this affect is quick. Devotee offer flowers over the idol of deity and if flowers fall on the right side of the idol, it indicates that their wishes will be fulfilled shortly and if on left side, this is sign of rejection of the wishes.
