History
The Maa Vaishno Devi Ashram was established in Vrindavan on 22nd May 2010 in the premises of Mathura, Lord Krishna’s birth place. The inauguration function was organised in a grand manner. The organisers of this Ashram had in mind right from the beginning to facilitate millions of devotees of Maa Vaishno Devi at Katra near Jammu. The devotees experienced difficulties in making their pilgrimage to Katra as the number of devotees was increasing every year in leaps and bounds. As a result of this thinking, the Maa Vaishno Devi Ashram at Vrindavan announced the construction and unveiling of the tallest Maa Vaishno Devi statue was in December 2010.
Following their plan, a project was taken up to construct an 140+ feet tall statue of Maa Vaishno Devi with eight arms holding her weapons and keeping by Her side a 50 ft tall Lion and Shri Hanumanji Statue in front of Her. The project has come true with an amazing Statue attracting the attention of everyone who passes by the Delhi-Mathura Road.
The Structure
The statue of Maa Vaishno was built by Shri Chaudhry as an expression of gratitude and acknowledgement to the goddess for all the love, care and affection and care she had been giving to him who was her staunch devotee. The statue is an elegant workmanship of goddess Maa Vaishno in a red colour Indian saree, adorning a pair of graceful trinkets and possessing elegant weapons signifying her preparedness to protect her devotees and exhibiting her authority as well to warn the evil elements. The Vaishno Devi statue is made complete by including Her royal career, the Lion.
The overall height of Maa Vaishnodevi Statue if measured from the ground level is 141 feet. Lion included in the Maa Vaishnodevi Statue is also about 35'-6" tall, from which level the height of Maa Vaishnodevi is around 102'-0". The dimensions of various components of the Statue, the Lion, Hanumanji and other objects carried by Maa Vaishnodevi are all impressive.
Maa Vaishno Devi is holding eight different objects in her eight hands, which are Gadda (the mace), Shankh (the Conch), Dhanush (the bow), Talwar (the sword), Trishul (the trident), Chakra (the divine wheel) and Kamal (the lotus). Each of them is of mammoth size having a specific significance denoting her concern to devotees and as a caution to all the evil forces.
