Thiruvalluvar Statue Kanyakumari Tamil Nadu

Located on the top of a small island near Kanyakumari, the Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 133 feet tall sculpture of Thiruvalluvar, a Tamil philosopher and poet. He was the author of Thirukkural and this statue was constructed on 1 January 2000.

About

It is located at a place where the meeting point of two seas and one ocean is located. Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean meet at this place. The 38-foot pedestal is there in this statue, which represents thirty-eight chapters of virtue, which were mentioned in Thirukkural. The monument was also hit by Tsunami in 2004.

Construction

The foundation of the statue was laid by the former Prime Minister, Morarji Desai in 1979. The construction of the statue, however, started much late in 1990. The statue was constructed in more than one million US Dollars and one hundred fifty workers were assigned for the construction. The statue is designed in such a way that it can survive earthquakes of even higher magnitude.

You can visit this temple from 9AM to 4PM every day.

By Road

The road route to the city is also well connected and you can take a bus or a cab in that route.

By Rail

The railway station of Kanyakumari is just around one kilometer away from the statue, which will take you there easily.

By Air

The Kanyakumari airport is the nearest airport, which had started quite recently. You can easily get flights to the main cities of India.
