Tathagata Tsal
Also known as the Buddha Park of Ravangla, Tathagata Tsal is located in the southern part of Sikkim. It is a 130-foot high statue, which was constructed in between 2006-2013. The statue is of Lord Buddha and the location for this statue was chosen keeping the religious angle in mind. It is a centuries old pilgrim place. It is also located near Ralang Monastery, which is one of the main monasteries in the Tibetan Buddhism.
Construction
The fourteenth Dalai Lama had consecrated this statue in 2013 and since then, it has been one of the key destinations for the Himalayan Buddhists. It was set up on the 2550th Birthday of Lord Buddha with equal efforts put in by the government of Sikkim and its people. The park around the statue is made in yin-yang formation and you will be able to see it if you view it from an aerial point. The geo images of the sight were obtained before the final construction of the place.
Where to Stay
Tathagata Tsal has their own guesthouse for the pilgrims and visitors. There are several ritual seminars and workshops, which the visitors can attend along with the functions performed there. The guesthouse has seventeen rooms in total and has one special room for the Dalai Lama. The comfort of the visitors is kept in mind and all the necessary things are available. There are several stalls in the area, which sell spiritual books and handicrafts to the visitors.
How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport is Bagdogra which is in Gangtok. People, who wish to reach here by air, can book their flights till Bagdogra and then continue their journey to Sikkim.
By Rail
The nearest Railway station is New Jalpaiguri which connects the place to other places in the country.
By Road
The national highway 18 connects this place very well to the other parts of the country. Many buses are available which help you reach Sikkim in easy and affordable way.
