Shiva Of The Har Ki Pauri Haridwar Uttarakhand
History
The name Haridwar has come from Har Ki Pauri, which happens to be the main Ghat in the Banks of the Ganges River in the Haridwar district of Uttarkhand state in the Indian continent. Har means Lord Shiva who happens to be the adoring God for Shaiva community which again is a Hindu school of thought and Ki means of and Pauri is translated as Steps. The Brahmakund in the Har Ki Pauri is a famous place, where Lord Shiva and Vishnu are believed to have made visits during the Vedic periods. A wall of stones contains the foot prints said to be that of Lord Vishnu in proof of having visited this place.

The sacred place of Ganges is said to be vacating the mountain area and make an entry to the plains at this place and Har Ki Pauri is a place where thousands of pilgrims gather during the festivals like Mahakumbh mela which comes once in 12 years, the Ardh Mahakumbh mela coming once in six years and also the famous Baisakhi festival of Punjab which comes during April every year. King Vikramaditya is believed to have constructed this during the first century BC in memory of his brother Bharthari, who meditated here on the Ganges River’s bed side. The Shiva here adores thousands of pilgrims daily. It is firmly believed that the Saptarishis, the seven sages, were in deep meditation at this place. The Ganges who did not want to disturb their penance broke herself in to seven parts (Sapt Sarovar) and formed the stream. Sapta Rishi Ashram and Sapta Sarovar are important places to be visited here.
Chandi Devi Temple, Bhakta Mahadev Temple, Maya Devi and Mansa Devi temples are nearby temples worth visiting. Important tourist places are Kanwa Rishi Ashram, Bilkeshwar Mahadev, Pawan Dham, BhoomaNiketan, Vaishnav Devi Temple, Bharat Mata Mandir, Doodhadhari Temple, Shahi Gurudwara, Jairam Ashram and Shanti Kunj.

Nearest Airport
The place happens to be Jolly Grant. Bhaniawala, Dehradun which is at a distance of around 40 kms. The Vayudoot services from Delhi also are connecting the place. The Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi is around 220 kms from here.
By Rail
All important cities viz Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Howrah, Varanasi, Allahabad, Ujjain, Amritsar, Dehradun, Lucknow and other cities are well connected.
By Road
NH 45 is well connected to this place to various important cities which are at a distance of say 100 to 240 kms.
