Lord Shiva Jabalpur Madhya Pradesh

Origin
The statue of Lord Shiva was built in 2006 and was created with the major motive of increased visits from tourists. Of the cities of Jabalpur, Kachnar was a newly formed city and it was chosen as the place where the statue of Lord Shiva, almost 76 feet in height would be commissioned. Ever since, the statue sees a lot of visitors who come to pay their respects to the most powerful god in the Hindu mythology. During Maha Shivaratri and Makar Sankranti, there is a lot of crowd and there is a jet of water that comes out from the head of the statue.

Statue of Lord Shiva
The statue is the best and biggest tourist attraction of the city. There are visitors who throng the place to see the statue are struck with wonder at the towering statue, standing 76 ft tall giving a feel that the Supreme power of the God is above all the earthly materialistic things. The statue of the Lord is in a sitting posture with his four hands. There is a crescent moon on the head and this moon is popularly known to be in its fifth day. That is the day that signifies the beginning of growth and that is the reason why the God is seen to have this on his head. Shiva is also seen with semi open eyes indicating that the Karmic cycle of destruction and creation is on.
The statue of Lord Shiva is seen sitting on a tiger skin. Since the tiger is supposed to indicate desire, the representation indicates that Lord Shiva has completely overpowered desire and the four hands represent his immense power. The other accompaniments of the statue include the Trishul with the symbolic Damru, a musical instrument that creates mystic music when shaken and the deadly snake around his neck. As per the Hindu mythology, the snake is Vasugi who had requested Lord Shiva to wear him around his neck and the Lord consented.
Rani Durgavati Museum
Just three kms away from the Shiva statue, is the memorial dedicated to Rani Durgavati who ruled in 1964. There are a lot of artefacts that belong to the 10th century that is preserved in this museum. Another important feature of this museum is that it has a specific region cordoned off to showcase the details pertaining to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. This has a collection of rare pictures of the Mahatma.
