Buddha Statue Of Hyderabad
The 58 feet tall monolithic statue of Buddha standing in the middle of the lake on a 15 feet platform is enough to take our spiritual minds to a state of ecstasy and every pilgrim irrespective of caste and religious belief has to visit this place to understand the mesmerizing beauty of this statue.
Origin
Shri N.T. Rama Rao, when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh undertook a trip to the US and was spell bound by the Statue of Liberty. He wanted to erect a similar kind of stone image of somebody and chose that to be Gautama Buddha since he believed that he was one of spiritual leaders who enlightened the followers with his guidance. NTR found a white granite stone where he could cut the statue from a single rock and the entire construction took close to a year and there were more than hundred masons who were involved in the sculpting. The statue was opened to public in 1992.

Statue of Lord Budha
The statue of Lord Buddha has been built with the model of the Statue of Liberty in mind and therefore very similarly stands in the middle of the lake and is lit up during the night while standing tall. The statue is seen with closed eyes and stands with his left hand folded and placed close to his heart while the right hand is in the posture where he is blessing the onlookers. The statue is seen wearing a long robe and stands on a pedestal. The statue is 58 feet tall and worked out to 350 tonnes. This statue has the credit of being the tallest statue of Buddha that has been carved out of a single stone. Now, the statue stands on a raised level of land and this rises out of the lake for close to 15 feet. This acts as the base for the statue and stands the weight of the entire statue.
Attractions Around Hussain Sagar Lake
The Hussain Sagar Lake is one of the major attractions in the area. This is because there are a lot of beautification efforts that have been taken in and around the lake. Just next to the lake is the Lumbini Park which has fountains dancing to music, auditoriums that can play laser shows and tourist activities such as boat rides. Talking of parks, the Sanjeevaiah Park is another notable park known for its attractive landscaping skills. The Birla Mandir, which is a temple that was built during the 1976 is also a must visit place. For tourists of Islam, there is the tomb of Saidani Maa Saheba where they can pay their respects. For youngsters who come to the tourist spot, the shopping mall cum Cineplex cum game zone of IMAX is an important place to visit. This place has five screens and a food court offering mouth -watering cuisine for the entire family or groups to choose from.

Andhra Pradesh is known for its spicy masala food and the capital city is not left behind at all. There are many good eateries that offer quality food at moderate prices, be it the traditional Hyderabadi food or the Karachi biscuits that are famous in the area, the tourists can have food to their heart’s content.

The statue of Buddha is very close to the main city, there are hotels of all ranges – budget, moderate and high class accommodation can all be available. Tourists can also choose accommodation depending on whether they are coming with friends, as a couple or as a family.
Temple Timings
As the tourists have to take a boat to the middle of the lake to view the statue, it is better to see it during the day, as it can tend to get dark in the evenings and it could be difficult to get the boat back to the city.
How to Reach
Road
The Budha Statue of Hyderabad stands right in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake and this is very accessible through the roadways. The roadways are well connected in Andhra Pradesh and the lake is just a couple of kms away from the city of Begumpet. The closest bus stop to this place is Necklace road.
Rail
The railway station of Begumpet is just two kilometers away from the lake. So for tourists who are travelling, this is the best railway station to alight.
Nearest Airport
Rajiv Gandhi airport, which is Hyderabad’s international airport, is the nearest airport to the Hussain Sagar Lake just about three kms away.
