A separate Body functioning under the ministry of secondary education, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and established in 1953, functioning as an Autonomous Body under Andhra Pradesh’s Education Department, is the 'Board of Secondary Education of Andhra Pradesh'and is otherwise also referred as 'Directorate of Government Examinations' and it takes up SSC/OSSC Public Examinations and different other small type examinations.
This board controls, and oversees the entire secondary education system in the State of Andhra Pradesh and implements and manages different functions including designing of curriculum, preparing course ware, give instructions and provide guidance for all educational institutions which come under its purview.
Situated at the Chapel road, Opposite to Stanley girls High School, this board which was formed in 1953 manages and control various schools coming under its jurisdiction and one of its foremost function is Publishing results and providing necessary Certificates to the successful candidates and the activities are taken up by the Board after due authentication and approval by the Education Department . In order to go in line with the latest inclusions in the area of education, the board includes various new courses and formulates new curriculum now and then depending upon the requirement, and functions through its Head office at Hyderabad and other Regional Offices.
The objectives of Andhra Pradesh education board can be enumerated as under:

- Narrow the gap between the Urban and Rural education system in Andhra Pradesh
- Ensure inclusion of latest technological advancement in the State’s education and regular training of staff.

The Board functions through its Head Office at State’s capital Hyderabad and other Regional offices, which are spread over the other parts of Andhra Pradesh. In fact, at the smaller cities, the SSC Board of Andhra Pradesh, takes care of the education management. The board’s onus in designing the curriculum and education system becomes more serious, since many student would be taking up the schooling in the days to come, in line with the new Central Government’s policy that every child of the age group between 6 to 14 years have a right to education.

The Government Directorate conducts SSC/OSSC examinations two times in a year and Vocational SSC examination once a year.However,other small time examinations are also conducted by the Board which are:

Services to the Students/Public
Apart from conducting examinations, board also offers other services like Issuing duplicate certificates, after due police verification, issuing compartmental pass certificates after the students pass all necessary subjects, Issuing memos, age and migration certificates, make corrections in the certificates which shall be valid only up to one year from the date of certificate issue (making corrections is since dispensed with), Verify whether the certificates issued are genuine, extending permission to candidates coming from other states and countries, issue of age condensation certificates, recounting of marks on payment of necessary fee and declare results and issue certificates thereon.

The board also does other functions like :- Confer due recognition to schools who request for such recognition, Design course ware and text books for Intermediate and high schools, Take up the task of conducting examinations for Intermediate, High School and Rural/Urban students in the State of Andhra Pradesh, Make available match up courses for such examinations conducted by other boards, Take care to ensure accuracy and reliability of corrects of papers and the evaluation processes related to the schools and boards and also ensure to publish High School text books.
