Nampally, Hyderabad has the privilege of holding the coveted Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education Board of Andhra Pradesh State in India, which was established in the year 1971.

The main activities of the Board runs as under:

  • To regulate and supervise the Intermediate education system in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Governing and holding of different works viz Courseware designing, Preparation of syllabus, holding examinations, sanction of affiliation to colleges and
  • Direct, Extend support and  heading of all educational institutions coming under its control

The Board’s posts of Chairman and Secretary to Government and that of Vice Chairman are held by the Hon.Minister of State for Secondary Education and Secondary Education’s Secretary to the Government respectively.A Secretary who is an IAS officer rank would be the Board’s Chief Executive.

The classy education system of Andhra Pradesh which happens to be its dream of is nurtured by the  Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education and thus strives constantly for the State’s education.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Board can be seen to be sanctioning of affiliations to the bodies extending intermediate education, Prescribe rules for Junior Colleges Administration, Release Text books, Stipulate necessary teachers’ qualification, Educational Inspection of Junior Colleges, Carrying out examinations, Work out the results and certificates issue.

Functions

The major functions of the Board are-  granting of Affiliation to schools applying for such affiliation, Prescribe course contents and publish books for intermediate students, Perform the processes of intermediate examination, and make available similar examinations as is normally conducted by other Boards.

Courses Offered

The AP Intermediate Education Board, Hyderabad also provides different curriculum related offerings on Education.“Educational Research and Training Wing “ is a Educational Wing established by the Board of Intermediate Education, AP, Hyderabad, to provide autonomous powers to the Educational areas of the Board, This Board is accorded special powers to come out with necessary Curriculum related materials, for the two years Intermediate Program.

Providing details of relative portions for the relevant subjects and optional thereon would be the responsibility of the respective Subject Committees set up by the Board.Also the committees have the responsibility of changing the syllabus and provide updates from time to time, which shall be in line with the changing market scenario.

Examination

Every year, final Examinations are conducted by the Board, during March/April and the Advanced Supplementary Examinations are taken up during June/July, which happens to be the most coveted and essential function of the Board.

Recounting

Also, the Board takes up other activities, mentioned below at the charges mentioned against each:

Recounting Rs. 100 per paper
Photo copy and re-verification of answer book Rs. 600 per paper

 

While doing the above activities the board takes care to take the scripts from the concerned and check up for any possible flaws in totaling, posting any omissions and ensure to refer to the relevant Committee for necessary actions and after duly making necessary changes the students are advised about such changes if any.

Pattern

While the original system was to conduct Intermediate Public Examination at the end of the second year, from 1978-79 both the examinations are conducted at the end of 1st and 2nd year courses respectively.The pattern goes like thi:-

  • Firstly students are evaluated in English Part I, Part II Second Language and Part III Group Subjects for a total of 500 marks in the first year and
  • for a total of 500 marks in the second year containing subjects viz Arts Group, and
  • 470 marks in first year and 530 marks in the second year in MPC Group and
  • 440 marks in the first year and 560 marks in second year for the Bi.P.C group.
  • A student should secure a minimum of 35 per cent of marks in each paper.
  • The candidate’s final division/ranking is decided by taking in to account the total of the first year and that of the second year.
