History

As per sources, no particular history is in records for this stadium, yet there are some controversies attached to this hockey stadium. Earlier known as Major Dhyanchand Hockey stadium, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Hockey Stadium was built in the year 1993 and was the polygrass stadium of Pune, Maharashtra. It is said that it took 1.15 crore to construct this stadium. In the year 1993, Women’s hockey matches during National Games were held here. Apart from this, there is no such particular history associated with this stadium.

Renovation

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Hockey Stadium is anticipated to get new facelift. It is said that this stadium will be revamped by the Municipal corporation of Pune, that will be shedding off 2.75 crore. As per the renovation project, the floodlights will be put at the stadium since World Series Hockey matches are played here. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation shall carry out different other allied works in the first ever polygrass hockey stadium in Pune for which the government has invited many tenders. Ashish Sharma, the Municipal Commissioner said that PCMA is spending ample money to enhance the stadium’s infrastructure. This improvement shall be considered to be a permanent asset. Municipal Corporation’s general body has accredited the resolution for executing this project however the plan was then abandoned due to assorted austerity measures which were taken few years back.

It is expected that civic bodies shall put up 4 high mast floodlights that have capacity of 1,200 lux. This project is expected to be completed by December 15.
