Based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Nehru stadium is a cricket stadium that has the capacity to hold 25, 000 spectators. It is also home ground for the Holkars in Ranji Trophy. Nehru stadium attained infamy when an ODI match amid Sri Lanka and India was to be played on December 25th 1997. However the match could not be held with 50 over and so the referee concurred that the match with 30 over could be played so as to please the restless crowd.

This stadium has also hosted matches when the Cricket World Cup was held in the year 1987. Nehru stadium is one of the most prominent stadiums for cricket venue in India as many ODI matches have been played here. This stadium was earlier known as Yashwant club ground but now days this stadium is used for hosting only ODI matches. It cannot host test matches as this stadium has only ODI status from the ICC.

History

In Nehru stadium, on 25th December 1997, a One Day International match was to be held between India and Sri Lanka, however this match was stopped after the third over in the first innings itself owing to the intuitions of the referee and umpire together with the captains of both team regarding the pitch that it could prove to be dangerous for both the teams to play on. Later on the referee reached to a conclusion that to please the large restless crowd, the teams would play 30 over match.

Following this incident, ICC put a ban on Nehru stadium from hosting any kind of match for two years. After the ban period, Nehru stadium hosted its first match on March 30th 2001. It was during this match that Sachin Tendulkar created record against Australia, by becoming the 1st player that reached 10,000 runs in One Day International Cricket Matches. Presently it remains unknown if this stadium will be hosting any other ODI or not.

The Nehru stadium is based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. This stadium is acknowledged for hosting ODI and test matches of international level. Nehru Stadium is one of the most prominent stadiums in India. Indore’s Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International airport is in close proximity to the ground. Henceforth the flight serves the best and one of the most convenient and comfortable mode of conveyance.

The railway station of Indore is also very close to this stadium, so even the trains can be used as one of the convenient modes of transport. Apart from all these, individuals can also use taxis, cars, and buses to reach Nehru Stadium.

The ground of Nehru Stadium has capacity to hold 25, 000 spectators. It is presently one of the largest cricket grounds in India. This stadium has a large and huge outfield together with well equipped drainage system and artificial grasses.

Nehru Stadium is very well equipped with large artificial grass ground and a well maintained drainage system. The stadium though has different facilities, yet it is proposed that this stadium will have many more world class facilities as it is the only stadium that has the largest cricket playing ground in India. Regular repair and maintenance work is done on regular basis.
