EMS stadium is located in Kozhikode, India and is a multipurpose stadium. It is mostly used to conduct football matches. The stadium has capacity to accommodate 53000 spectators. It was constructed in year 1977.Day-night matches of football and cricket are conducted as it is well equipped with floodlights. It has hosted major tournaments organized in country. Two of them are AFC Women Asia cup and Nehru cup in years 1980 and 1987.Indian team won silver medal on this ground in AFC women Asia cup.

History

It was constructed in year 1977. It has undergone two renovations in year 2005 and 2011 in which it has got synthetic track which is newly constructed and makes the ground of international standards. Also it is well equipped with flood lights to conduct day and night matches and two helipads.

How To Reach

KSRTC bus stand is at walking distance from EMS corporation stadium at about 1 Km distance and takes 3min when walked down to Mavoor Road. Railway station of Kerala is 1.9 Km from stadium when went down to MM ROAD Kerala and takes about 6 mins. Another way is from Ooty Road which is 2.4 Km and takes 8 min. Calicut international airport is nearest airport 30 Km away from stadium. Local buses and taxis are available to reach airport. The stadium has a record of maximum turn up for national football league and thus it is most famous stadium among football fans in India.

Ground

The new design of stadium is of RK Ramesh and it includes VVIP lounge, dressing room, media centre etc. Also there were major changes in grandstand pavilion for national games 2012.The stadium has a gallery capacity of 40000 and 30000 chairs. It has got synthetic track which is newly constructed and makes the ground of international standards. Also it is well equipped with flood lights to conduct day and night matches and two helipads.

Noted Events

Some important events took place at this ground are listed below:

• Match between Bulgaria champions and Soviet Union, in which Soviet Union won the match.
• It was Home ground for Viva Kerala FC in I- league.
• Stadium is favorite venue for football match organizers .Almost all major tournaments like Sissors cup final, Super cup finals, Santosh Trophy and nagii trophy were held in this stadium.
• Malabar Mahaotsavam cultural festival of Kozhikode was organized in stadium.
• It hosted the inaugural ceremony of A.R. Rehman world tour.
• National Games 2012 and EK Nayanar 2011 Gold cup football tournament was organized on the Ems stadium ground.
• It has hosted major tournaments organized in country. Two of them are AFC Women Asia cup and Nehru cup in years 1980 and 1987.Indian team won silver medal on this ground in AFC women Asia cup.
• 2013 National game football matches are planned to be conducted on this ground.

Renovation

The stadium undergone renovation in year 2005 and opened for State bank of Travancore national football league matches. Another renovation was in year 2011 which was a due to National Games in 2012.Corporation of Kozhikode and government invested around 18 Crore for its renovation. The new design of stadium is of RK Ramesh and it includes VVIP lounge, dressing room, media centre etc. Also there were major changes in grandstand pavilion for national games 2012.

Famous Matches

• It has hosted major tournaments organized in country. Two of them are AFC Women Asia cup and Nehru cup in years 1980 and 1987.Indian team won silver medal on this ground in AFC women Asia cup.

• It also hosted India-Pakistan cricket match in which many legendary cricketers of India participated.
