A unique Indoor Stadium was set in West India in December 1998, so that different International and latest games could be played here. Apart from the indoor games, International Business Meetings are also held at this indoor stadium. Surat Indoor Stadium has the capacity to accommodate 7000 spectators.
This stadium is a large completely air conditioned indoor stadium which forms one of the key attractions in Surat, Gujarat. This stadium boasts of assorted contemporary facilities and services while was constructed with the cost of 21 crore INR.
History
The Municipal Corporation of Surat has added a new feather into the crown of Surat City by establishing an exclusively new air conditioned indoor stadium, named Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium that has seating capacity of 7,000 spectators. This stadium is one of its kinds in entire West India. Surat Indoor stadium was inaugurated by Shri Keshubhai Patel, the then Gujarat’s chief minister and Smt. Savita Sharda, the Mayor of Surat city.
The stadium is perfect for different indoor games. It is said that in few days, the Surat Municipal Corporation will take decision if this stadium can be allotted for Navratri celebrations. This has attracted three main bidders. Since the last two years, there have been some incidents of violence, and this has naturally become a concern for people and players.
People say that they avoid sending their children to this stadium as it is unsecure from different anti-social elements. Besides all this, it is again a big business risk to allot the stadium for nine night’s celebration of Navratri.
How to Reach
To reach this stadium, individuals have three most common and convenient modes of conveyance. The Surat railway station is excellently connected to main cities of India. You can board the respective train from your city and reach Surat. The next option is to reach Surat by air. Surat now has its own domestic airport, though the connectivity is limited. Hence forth people mainly opt for flights that operate to and from Ahmadabad airport which is 286 kilometers away from Surat.
The last option is to reach Surat is by bus, which is very easily available on regular basis from different major neighboring cities. On reaching city Surat, one can hire an auto-rickshaw, rickshaw, public buses, or private cabs and reach this stadium.
Ground
The ground of Surat Indoor Stadium is perfect for organizing assorted national and international level indoor games like Tennis, Basket Ball, Badminton, Wrestling, Boxing, Hand ball, Gymnastics, Table Tennis, and Volley ball etc. The stadium has a central arena of 33 m X 62 m in size, has room for participants and commentators, besides some other facilities like snack and space bar.
The ground of this stadium is also suitable for different cultural programs, conferences, seminars, fashion shows, drams, and musical concerts. The ground level is 100 m while the roof level is 125 m. The inner diameter and outer diameter of the ground are 63 m and 104 m respectively. The roof structure of this stadium ground is made of steel.
