Moti Bagh Stadium is a well known stadium that forms a part of the famous Lakshmi Vilas Palace Building Complex that spreads on a vast area of 2.8 kilometers. Based in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, Moti Bagh Stadium was initially known by the name of Motibaug Palace Ground. This stadium has capacity to accommodate 18,000 spectators while has hosted only 3 ODI matches till present. The palace and stadium initially belonged to the earlier rulers of Baroda together with the patrons of Indian cricket in Baroda – the Gaekwad.

Moti Bagh Stadium was used for hosting International matches but now this has been discontinued owing to the world class IPCL Sports Complex Grounds. Moti Bagh Stadium is an abode to Baroda Cricket Team while has many claims to its fame, of which one of the biggest fact is that this stadium is supposed to be largest cricket stadium in entire Asia.

History

The Moti Bagh Stadium forms a part of the Laxmi Vilas Palace. This palace together with the stadium was initially owned by the Gaekwad. The 1st ODI that was played on the grounds of Moti Bagh Stadium was on November 9th, 1983, where West India conquered India by 4 wickets. The first milestone which is recorded in the history of this cricket stadium was recorded on this day itself. The stadium also boasts of an impeccable and glorious history. The stadium spreads on the rambling acres of Laxmi Vilas Palace, which was the residence of Gaekwad rulers.

Vadodra city was considered to be a part of their kingdom while the rulers who were true patrons of excellent cricket sponsored the inauguration of the cricket ground in their premises which fell within the well tended and luxuriant grounds. One more historic feature of this stadium which is noteworthy is that Mohammad Azharuddin broke the world record of Zaheer Abbas and hit one of the fastest centuries in just 62 balls. But again in the year 2007, Virendra Sehwag broke this record.

This stadium is based within the Laxmi Palace Ground which is spread on vast sprawling ground on 700 acres. This stadium is even laded with state of the art display board which can be seen clearly from 360 degree angle.
