GMC Balayogi stadium is located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The stadium is named after G.M.C. Balayogi, speaker of Loksabha from Andhra Pradesh who died in aircraft accident. The stadium is well equipped with floodlights of latest high mast lights and hence day – night matches can be conducted on this ground. The stadium has got 8 line competition synthetic athletic tracks, 4 – lane synthetic practice track and 4 lanes for grass. The ground and stadium with high mast lights give picturesque view to spectators seating in stadium. The stadium is constructed in area of 14850.33 square meter area. The total cost of construction invested on stadium is around Rs 35.30 Crores.
Ground
The stadium is well set with the all the facilities for players and spectators. It has facilities of fitness and gym centre, medical room dope test room; well equipped conference room etc.It has football field and synthetic surface area for javelin throw and different jumps. Also the rings for discuss throw & shot put is provided. Olympic flame torch is kept high above stands of stadium. Video display score board, CCTV, Security system for public and player areas, voice and data network make the stadium technologically sound according to today’s need.
The stadium also has an aquatic complex and Gachibowli indoor stadium. Aquatic complex has the swimming, diving and water polo and about 20000 spectators can enjoy it at a time. The pools are temperature controlled by modern heating system. The Indoor stadium is multipurpose and has wooden flooring of DIN standards and approved by international Federation. It can accommodate 4000 spectators and fully air conditioned.
History
The stadium was constructed in year 2002 by Sports authority of Andhra Pradesh in the memory of GMC Balyogi ,the 12th honorable speaker of our Loksabha who unfortunately died on March 3 2002 in crash of BELL 206 helicopter in Kaikalur , west Godavari district Andhra Pradesh. He was aged 50.He was a famous politician and lawyer who contributed to Indian politics and law considerably.
How to Reach
Stadium is well connected by road and Buses of APSRTC (216, 217) are available. The closest MMTS railway station is Ligampally Railway Station which is around 6 km away. The outer ring road is connected to international airport at Shamshabad. Besides this a metro train facility is also available in Hyderabad.
Events at Stadium
The 32nd national games were organized in this stadium in year 2002. All the arrangements for event and facilities given to players, spectators and VIPs were appreciated and praised and considered as the best venue among entire country.
In 2003 AFRO-ASIAN games were organized in which 30000 people participated in opening ceremony. Amazing laser show and cultural activities was the major attraction and it lasted for 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Besides this local cricket team and athletes occupy this stadium for all state and district level competitions. Also football fixtures of district level organized here time to time.
On 26 Dec, 2006 about 2800 Kuchipudi dancers performed in stadium to set a place in Guinness World Records.
