About Seven Wonders of India
These wonders have been voted for by the citizens of the country which was a fair and justified method of selection that was also unbiased.
India is well renowned and worldly famous, since the early times, for its seven wonders. The Subcontinent of India has been the home to some of the very old and prehistoric civilizations in the world. India has emerged to be one of the most magnificent and mesmerizing countries of the world. The excellence of India include the spectacular beauty of nature, the excellent wildlife kingdom, the varied energetic population and the uncountable number of historical monuments that has been built by the rulers of ancient times. Tourism in India is flourishing because of the numerous wonders of the world that it has. The rich cultural heritage is reflected by its “Seven Wonders” which range from temples of worship to huge monoliths, from a university to mausoleum. India is known to offer a wide variety of cultural sights to its tourists. Hence India is rightly known as the “Treasure Trove of Wonders”. The incredibility of India is worth visiting and once started this journey seems to be a never ending one.
Polls and Facts
- Over a long period of time, lists have been made regarding the most wonderful man made sights that are present in the world. For making this a grand success, SMS polling was carried out by the leading newspaper publication house – the Times of India from 21st of July to 31st of July 2007. There was a nation wide urge and appeal made to the citizens to vote for the seven best wonders of India. The people had to choose from twenty well known sites both including ancient and medieval. Out of these very sites, there are four UNESCO World Heritage sites. These seven wonders that are in India are voted and selected by the Times of India Readers. They include places of worship, a monolith, a University and a Mausoleum.
- Another national campaigning was conducted by NDTV in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in order to search for the seven wonders of India in 2008-09. This campaign commenced with short listing 200 places from all corners of India and the common people were asked to send in their votes for the places that each of them liked.
Small Town Wonders
All the wonders in India are located in small cities or neighboring countryside except the famous Taj Mahal and the Golden Temple. Out of the twenty monuments that were listed for being voted, four of them were located in the metropolitan cities of Delhi, which has the Lotus Temple and Qutub Minar, Mumbai which has the Victoria Terminus and Kolkata which has the famous Howrah Bridge.
