Dungarpur district is located in the southern part of Rajasthan. The total area of the Dungarpur district is 3,770km. Dungarpur is a bit triangle in shape, where the River Mahi runs on the western edge of the district. Also the River Som runs along with the northen side edge of the district. Gujarat state is on the east side of the Dungarpur district.

Dungarpur and Banswara districts are a part of Vagad region. Vagad region has a maximum population of Bhils, a tribal people.Dungarpur was founded by Maharawal Veer Singh Dev in 13 centuary. Dungarpur district is named after hillocks. It is the capital of the former princely state of Dungarpur.

Dungarpur is famous for its historical places and tourist interests from all its villages. Baroda village, was the capital Vagad in once up on a time. Baroda is famous for the having temples of old architecture. Earlier in this place Jainism and Saivism were the two main religions.

A temple of Lord Shiva made with beautiful white stones. An old jain temple lies in the heart of this village. Boreshwar, Baneshwar, Bhuvaneshwar and Deo Somnath etc are the temples erected in the villages and tehsils of Dungarpur district.

The district has developed in the field of Information Technology. Dungarupur has setup The National Informatics Centre in the year 1977 by the Indian Government. The district has also undertaken many major projects by NIC district centre.
