North Central Railway
History
North Central Railway (acronym NCR) was formed as recently as April 2003, with the Allahabad Division carved from the erstwhile Northern Railway, the Jhansi Division from the Central Railway and a new Agra Division was created. With headquarters in Allahabad, the North Central Railway is one of the sixteen zones of the Indian Railways serving the States of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
Present Status
Spanning a total of 3062 route kms that are primarily double and electrified lines, North Central Railway occupies the center of the Indian Railway network and the heartland of India from Ghaziabad in the North to Bina in the South and Palwal in the west to Mughalsarai in the east. This zone forms a part of the sides and diagonal of the Golden Quadrilateral connecting the four metros Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai with scores of Mail and Express trains to all places in the jurisdiction of North Central Railway.
North Central Railway has two workshops; a Wagon Repair Workshop at Jhansi and the Rail Spring Karkhana at Sithouli near Gwalior that manufactures Coaching Stock and Locomotive Springs. North Central Railway employs 69,644 people.
The main improvements that have been made in recent times by North Central Railway are by the use of Information Technology in various processes in administration and traffic leading to tremendous savings in terms of manpower and paper and also making information available freely and easily. Increased use of the National Language Hindi has also been commended
Some of the improvements implemented are:
- Computerization by implementation of PRIME & APRES systems that has improved efficiency, accuracy, transparency, output and accountability in Accounts, Personnel and Traffic Departments and the connectivity with the web based database connectivity that allows contractors to view their bill status online.
- Touch Screen display systems have been commissioned in all three divisions has made it possible for employees to know their official personal details like salary details, PF details, leave status, advances status etc.
- Use of NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) for payments to Vendors and Contactors improving vendor/contractor satisfaction.
