Ferozpur district is in Punjab. It shares its borders with the neighbouring country, Pakistan. Its headquarters is Ferozpur city. Ferozpur District was part of the Mamdot estate. Ferozpur, was founded in the 14th century by Feroz Shah Tughluq, hence the name.

Ferozpur is spread across an area of 5334 Sq. Kms. Wheat, barley, millet, gram, pulses, oil seeds, cotton, tobacco are few of the principal crops here.

The climate of Ferozpur district is very hot in summer, short rains in monsoon and a pleasant winter. About 70 percent rainfall in the district is received from July to September. July and August are the rainiest months.

There is a memorial constructed after the war with Pakistan in the year 1976. The memorial stands as a symbol to the Sikh warriors who sacrificed their lives in the First Anglo - Sigh war. To commemorate the heroic martyrdom of 21 soldiers, who died without surrendering to the enemy the Saragarhi Memorial Gurudwara was built. Every year on September 12, the Saragarhi Day is celebrated.

Harike, an internationally well known, wet land in India is 86 sq. kms wide. Many species of birds throng this place from November till March. Birds migrate to this place during the winters from as far as Central Asia to Siberia.
