Bathinda district is located in the state of Punjab. Its headquarters is Bathinda city. The district was built by Bhati Rao, who became ruler of Punjab in 336 Bikrami Sambat. It was also called Whatinda and Bitunda. Bathinda become a district of Punjab State in 1956.

The district has scorching hot summers, with frequent dust storms and temperatures touchng 47o Celsius at times. The mild monsoon in the region brings about 410mm of rain on an average and a dry but very pleasant winter with temperatures reaching 0o and less. December and January are among the coldest months. The weather has undergone a change, due to the extension of irrigation facilities over time.

Some of the major Jatt clans in this district include Sidhu, Brar, Bhaika, Dhillon, Mann, Seera, Toor, Gill, Virk, Gondara, Aulakh, Bhullar, Mahal. The total area of the district is 3,355 Sq. Kms. The soil here is mostly sandy in nature.

Some of the places of interest here include Damdama Sahib. The place is famous for its Baisakhi fairs that are conducted every year. The place has historical significance in the writing of Adi-Granth. Adi-Granth was written in this place. There are other places such as Maiser Khana, Qila Mubarak, Rose Garden.

Industrial units like the Guru Nanak Dev thermal plant, Bathinda milk plant, Bathinda chemicals limited are located here.
