About the Party
Aam Aadmi Party was launched in 2012 on November 26. It is a political party of India which came into formation following the differences between Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal. The issue was whether to politicise India or not against the movement of corruption which has been in demand since 2011 for the bill Jan Lokpal. It was preferred by Hazare that this movement should always be politically unaligned and as per Kejriwal, the route of agitation’s failure necessitated a political involvement directly.
In 2013, the first party’s electoral test of the elections of Delhi Legislative assembly was held, from where it got emerged into a party winning 28 seats out of 70. It became the second-largest amongst other parties. AAP formed its minority government having conditional support of Indian National Congress. Its first manifesto was passing a bill within the time duration of 15 days for a very strong position that will investigate the charges on the priority basis against the political leaders. When it was clear that his bill will not be supported by other parties then, after the time period of 49 days, the resignation of the government was given.
History
AAP’s origin can be seen by a difference in opinion between the social activists, Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal who have been involved lately in the team of Anna which is a strand for the Jan Lokpal Bill, an anti-corruption movement that gained India’s momentum during the years 2011 and 2012. Hazare wanted the movement to be politically neutral but Kejriwal had considered that direct involvement was necessary in politics as the attempts made to obtain the progress of Jan Lokpal Bill by talking with the existing parties achieved nothing. India conducted a survey against the corruption organisation using the services of social networking, indicated that a wide support is there for politicisation.
On September 19th, Kejriwal and Hazare agreed that the differences regarding their politics role were irreconcilable. Some activists of anti-corruption movement have supported Kejriwal, like Shanti Bhushan and Prashant Bhushan, but Santosh Hegde and Kiran Bedi opposed him. On October 2nd, it was announced by Kejriwal that a party will be formed by him with the intention to launch it on November 26, coinciding with the adoption of India’s constitution’s anniversary of 1949.
The name of the party reflects common man as Aam Aadmi, whose interests are proposed by Kejriwal to represent. On November 24, 2012, the constitution of the party was adopted when 23 National executive and 320 people’s National Council was formed. Both of them were expected in future to have more number of members with an intention of having all classes and all districts people’s voice. Many committees were formed to give the proposal for the party’s adoption as it was expected that the process would take many months. One aim, although was to reduce nepotism and there were many complaints at the first meeting regarding the people’s selection who were invited for attending it was an example itself of such kind of practices. On November 26, in Delhi, the party got launched formally and it got registered in 2013, March by India’s election commission as India’s political party.
